Crunchy yet buttery textured, pleasantly sweet, and delicious pine nuts are small edible seeds (kernels) of the female cone on a pine tree. Pine kernels are, indeed, a splendid source of plant-derived nutrients, essential minerals, vitamins, and “heart-friendly” monounsaturated fatty acids that help health immensely by reducing bad cholesterol levels in the blood.

Pinenuts are probably best known for their use in pesto’s original recipe – with basil, Parmesan, olive oil, and garlic. Another beautiful way to use them is to toast them, to bring out the flavour and to add a little crunch, and create a tasty crust, a delicious sauce, or a flavorful garnish: sprinkle some onto salads or make a side dish using asparagus, spinach, green beans, chard, or broccoli to accompany your fish or meat.
